Extern Coordinator Sterile Processing

The Extern Coordinator Sterile Processing, assigns, tracks, and reports all activities related to the externship component of the institution’s programs. This role facilitates the student’s transition from didactic coursework to the externship experience. As a program faculty member and representative of the Academic Affairs Department, the coordinator ensures students meet all externship training objectives. Successful completion of these requirements qualifies students for graduation in accordance with program standards.

• Achieve assigned extern to hire metric with a standard of 50% extern to hire rate
• Develop and maintain externship sites in support of program needs
• Assist in the development of student job leads and employment opportunities
• Assign students to externship sites in collaboration with the Program Director and Academic Dean
• Conduct externship site visitations and complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner
• Supervise externship training in accordance with Academic Affairs Department policies and guidelines
• Coordinate the exchange of externship documentation including timesheets and evaluations with the Program Director and Registrar
• Attend and facilitate externship orientation sessions as assigned
• Assure timely and accurate receipt review and processing of required reports from students and externship sites
• Communicate regularly with the Program Director and Graduate Employment Director regarding student progress and outcomes
• Promote teamwork professionalism and compliance with all school policies and procedures
• Instruct classes as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Education / Experience

• HS Diploma or GED (required)
• The minimum qualification matrix outlines the education and experience requirements for instructors based on the individual program requirements
• Direct and specialized knowledge in the area of instruction (required) knowledge of CDC guidelines regarding sterile processing; experience with high-level disinfection (HLD) (preferred)
• Must meet extern site contracts requirements
• Unencumbered and active Sterile Processing Technician certification in the state where instructions occurs (required) 
  • TN only- HSPA or CBSPD (required)
• Valid state issued driver’s license (required)

Work Environment

• Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment when on site at assigned company location. Employees must be able to safely ambulate when on company premises.
• On campus and on site work locations include exposure to student learning environments with a variety of conditions. Employees must be able to follow all safety precautions including the use of personal-protective equipment. Employees must also be able to adhere to site-specific safety procedures.
