SUMMARY

The Dentist supervises, consults, refers and instructs Dental Hygiene Students.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversee and be present in the clinic during all clinic session.

2. Responsible for handling all medical emergencies that arise during clinic hours.

3. Prescribe proper medication as the need arises.

4. Administer local anesthesia when appropriate.

5. Answer questions from both students and patients.

6. Serve as authority to dental hygiene faculty/staff regarding dental matters.

7. Identify treatments for those patients that are medically compromised.

8. Identify pathologies and make appropriate referral—medical and/or dental.

9. Refer patients for follow up treatment.

10. Prescribe pit and fissure sealants as needed.

11. Identify and evaluate any lesion, anomaly or deviation from the normal.

12. Review radiographs and make a subsequent diagnosis based on the review.

13. Review health histories of the patients and make referrals to a physician as necessary.

14. Evaluate students as they provide patient care—through each process and end result.

15. Provide consulting services to patients to suggest and review treatment plans.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

 

· Minimum of five years experience as a dentist

· Must have appropriate state license

· Prefer prior experience in the Education industry

Prefer Nitrous certification.
